Countryside Discovery

The English countryside is one of our greatest assets and hidden attractions worth discovering. The Speedwell and Peak Caverns at Winnats Pass Castleton have been in existence since 1820s as well as Blue John and Treak Cliff Caverns. These caverns attract hundreds of visitors from all over the country and abroad as tourists. The Speedwell Cavern for example, is one of the deepest caverns on the British Isles – over 180m underground known as The Bottomless Pit a large subterranean lake with a 250 square metre surface are which was used by miners to dump 2,500 tonnes of waste rock from the Far Canal. . Speedwell Cavern is over 240 years old, a historic lead mine which first started in 1771.
