Visit to llam Hall Park

As part of commemorating this year’s Festival of Walking, SEM in collaboration with Access the Dales organised a walk to llam Hall Park, Ashbourne in the White Peak for 26 women from the Sheffield & District African Caribbean Community Association (SADACCA) and South East-Asian Women from ROSHNI.

The walk which took place on September 23rd 2026 at a beautiful National Trust location on the grounds of the YHA llam park was part of a number of walks taking place across the country. Some of the women with disabilities were provided with scooters to help them navigate the trail.

Feedback from the women was that it was a brilliant site with some wanting to come back with church members for a retreat.

Dr Maxwell Ayamba BEM who accompanied the groups said: “It was the first time SEM had to mix two groups on a field trip which went brilliantly well. The two groups had a lot to share about their experiences on walks organised by with SEM”.

He noted that SEM’s ongoing partnership with Access the Dales was so important as it has enabled people with disabilities and the elderly to access outdoor spaces that they wouldn’t normally due the nature of the trails and locations but also the ability to afford scooters and other equipment.

Dr Ayamba BEM emphasised the importance of having the right equipment to facilitate access, with the view to help promote the health and wellbeing of those incapable of walking.
